Godzone Celebrities

Room 1 was really lucky to have Chris Forne, the world champion navigator from Team Seagate come and visit us to talk about his Godzone experiences. We hope to continue to follow Seagate at their next race in South Africa and then at the world champs in Ecuador later in the year.

We then had Alastair, Elisha and Tim from Team Next Generation visit us and share their photos and experiences. Alastair has a blog http://alastairmcdowell.blogspot.co.nz/2014/03/godzone-kaikoura.html that some of us read before they came in.

And the team suggested the following websites for anyone who is interested in orienteering:
www.papo.org.nz and www.rogaine.org.nz

Tim from Next Generation is organising an event in early May.

Aakrista got a special present in the mail the other day. Rachel from Team Pat Farry Trust sent him her race bib.

Room 1 students, please post as comments below, all the things you learnt from our Godzone visitors and from following the race....

Godzone Fans

Room 1 students had a really exciting week following the Godzone http://godzoneadventure.com event, researching online and then writing / designing fan mail for the various teams.

Miss Robson delivered the mail to the teams before their prizegiving and the race organisers it on the wall. We are hoping we might even be able to get one of the adventurers to come and visit us...

Weather 'Senses' Poems

I see the drops drizzling on me as I run in the water.
I hear the water dripping on the ground loudly.
I smell the cold fresh air in the water.
I feel like a popsicle in the water, cold as the water falls on me.
I taste the freezing water as it falls in my mouth. I feel like it froze my tongue.
Ahmad

I see the water everywhere. It's like a river running through the school.
I hear the leaves clapping in the whistling trees.
I smell the icy cold, fresh rain water and flowers dripping.
I feel the water drip on my clothes as I get drenched.
I taste the water as I poke my tongue out.
Kasey

I see God sweating on the leaves as they fall to the ground making the plants grow to make fruit and vegetables and beautiful flowers.
I hear leaves smashing and crashing together to make rain drops land on the ground.
The wind is breezy and fast. It is as fast as watching the Olympics running race.

Senior Swimming Sports

Everyone chattering with a challenging tone, everybody complaining about each other. Mr harrison blows the whistle and starts the briefing . Everyone comes to start the 50 meter freestyle race. Mrs dudley get the race starts... CLAP!!!!! Every body dives into the water at full speed. As they race you see lots of bubbles like a volcano getting ready to explode!
They touch that side and that side with power, then push off again with such force and race each other to the other end. The parent helpers were waiting at the other end to give the lolly sticks that says 1st  2nd  3rd and 4th. As the racer who came 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th get out of the pool with excitement. as they jog to mrs robinson and sit down by the cone. they are breathing quickly as the other competitor jump in the pool to have there race they stare at mrs dudley as the clapper claps... soon the competitors race back as they swim as fast as they can to reach the end of the length. they jump up and stand up tall and take a deep breath. and the people who came 1st 2nd 3rd 4th go to mrs robinson again and hand over the lolly stick. the finals are just about to start the crowd goes to silence...the clapper claps they jump in and swim to win for the zones. they’re fast as michael phelps ( not as fast as him but very fast) they smile as they get out of the pool. they walk back to the bench as Sophie Pascoe walks in the door and we see her walking towards mr harrison and he hands the microphone over to Sophie Pascoe as she talks to the seniors the students are listening very carefully .after she finishes mr harrison say time for the house relays. the house captains get the relay people(Conway=Ofa Pulu,Darius Potter. Waitaki=Dana Jung,Matthew Kim. Rakaia=Scarlett Rumble,Scott Robinson. Hurunui=Ealenor Field,William Pirker. Waimakariri=Luka Phillips,Alice Masters).once we got everyone we got ready to start... ‘’clap’’ the house relay teams started one person each there was 10 people in each group (not quite) 2 min later waitaki was in the lead with the team cheering the swimmer, they have a teacher too (lucky) there on there last person she’s almost there, she touches the the end and we jump up and jump in the pool Waitaki won again this year 2014 house relay we celebrate the house captains (MATTHEW KIM, DANNA JUNG) are very happy.
